The "Graviternal" series focuses on the theme of gravity. Gravity distorts our perception of time and space, and recent research suggests that we move between dimensions. I create my works while thinking about "ma," the space that exists between two existences. In Japanese, ma is a peculiar word with various connotations such as distance, space, time, and communication. The works are painted by rubbing a unique silica medium (paint on glass powder) against the panel. The shimmer of the medium and the way the shadows fall vary depending on the lighting, allowing the viewer to freely change the expression of the painting. The image that appears changes depending on the force with which the artist presses the medium against the panel.
