This series of 5 pcs of small paintings called:
From and through the window
What gives us meaning when no one is looking? This is a question our generation must be grappling with, given that the balance of our society has shifted overnight, and we, the citizens of our respective countries have been made to stay indoors, reflecting on our position in the world between the domineering four walls of our homes, with only the windows to look out of from time to time. The focus of this series of artworks is thus turned towards the state of our youth, who are purported to be having the best years of their lives, which are, regrettably, halted for the moment under the necessity of the quarantine. What would they be doing to pass the time, or rather, who are they when no one is looking? Who are we at our most solitary? With the idea of a window having a frame with which to look in and through, these portrait paintings seek to be taken as a window into the souls of its subjects, Using a dominant shade of red in an effort to denote passion and imminence, these portraits of local teenagers, each with a unique brand of individuality, seek to inspire hope, courage and excitement for the future, as the spirit of promise burns ever brighter in spite of external challenges. Some, of course, may turn to social media, to keep up to appearances and updates, while others, under the pressure of inactivity, will recuperate in restfulness, reflection and momentary despair. All of these experiences are valid. This is a contemporary collection of paintings that, when acquired individually, reminds one of their fragile, yet eminent humanity, and it also ties together the collectivity of our experiences when banded together on the wall of a house or an apartment.A representation of how we all feel right now that everyone can relate to.
