    Description

An exploration of the artist's engagement in the process of connection, conversion, and creation. This series depicts the historical and psychologicalphenomenon of her identity signifiers through a dialogue of images evoking theoccupying external influences. The elements relate to her psyche, religion, cyber world, ethnographic influences. The delineated planes and lines act as an expressive surface ofconnection, continuity, and perspective. Beneath all the elements of the west, depicts the idea of indigenous thought which is continually suppressed broughtout by modernity and socioeconomic status. Written on with tattoos, concealedunder layers of imagery, or exploding outwards to reveal an inner world offantasy and conflict.

  • About this artist

    Concept

Venazir's inclination with her subjects and street art media started when she created a social experiment as an academic requirement – the use of street art to challenge the visual perception of the locals in the city of Baguio. Hila-bana: Popularizing the Cordilleran Identities through a Street Art Hunt is her lifelong advocacy to institutionalize Philippine Art further. Even more so, she aims to develop and revitalize a competitive visual approach of our nation's cultural and historical identity to a global scale.

She graduated cum laude with the degree of Bachelor in Fine Arts, with her thesis recognized as the Best Thesis Production and awarded the Darnay Demetillo Artist Award by the University. Amidst all these, she is truly indebted to the environment, which reconstructed her external influences and instilled a burning passion for further bolstering the search for Filipino identities. I strongly believe that if one comes up with an original idea, this should be honed and developed with a progressive mindset.
She integrated different discourses from the social sciences to arts and humanities into her creations. Her murals and works generated flashes of reactions and curiosity. She developed an engaging outdoor museum for our fellow Filipinos who don't have the privilege to welcome the extravagance of the art world. That, in a developing country she lives in, where necessities a considered to be of greater importance before gearing towards art appreciation, and self-actualization is not an exaggeration.
