In 2021, inspired by Ukiyo-e, Weir took birds (not in flight) found in this genre of art and recontextualized them in fields of color. This new piece incorporates text (à la Lichtenstein), however, it's not too much of a departure from the original sold out series.
The source material for this piece is taken from Kitagawa Tsukimaro's woodblock print "Hawk on Blossoming Plum".
It is produced on Hahnemühle Aquarell 425 g/m² paper and is protected with a matt varnish. The painting is signed on the reverse with a Hanko (name stamp), dated, and titled.
