A little girl holding a lantern has stumbled upon the moon that has fallen from the sky and landed in the forest. Is she L'il Luna? Or is the moon itself, which appears to be quite small, actually L'il Luna? It matters not. This painting was great fun to create though also quite tedious. The idea for it came when my youngest son presented me a book for my birthday called, The Moon - From Inner Worlds to Outer Space. It features all kinds of images and paintings of the moon, which has been a frequent image used in many of my paintings. Paging through the book, it got me wondering about stumbling upon the moon myself, up close and personal. What would I think? I began searching for images and ultimately combined and interpreted a few different ones to concoct this startling image. Though dark, it also holds the promise of magic. To me, this painting is like a fairy tale and continues my quest to paint the impossible - or at least the highly improbable!
