Description

‘Apology of Socrates’ the oldest oral memorandum in the world, Chizuko Ninomiya uses converted impression of serifs into a Shift JIS code and expressed as a painting.
The “shift JIS code” is a character code representing Japanese, and represents one Japanese with four alphanumeric characters. The alphanumeric characters in this painting are able to convert Japanese sentences by computer.
Socrates, who had been debating one of the “self-proclaimed intellectuals” in the city of Athenai. He was accused of a religious crime as “introducing the unbelievable gods of the nation and crashing youth”.
As a result, the trial ends by sentenced to death. Socrates tells the advice to those who voted guilty and talking about his own view of life and death to those who voted innocence to end the story. The numbers on the painting show the number of votes for guilty on the left and the number of votes for innocence on the right.
The two 162 x 130.3 cm canvases are one piece of work.

Concept

Chizuko Ninomiya majored in law as a student, and after working as a system engineer (SE) at a financial institution, she is now working as a contemporary art artist.
What she is interested in has two things in common: "rules" and "results".
Whether it is laws that regulate the way society is run, programs that work as they are written in advance, or mathematical and financial engineering that decipher the world.
This has a lot to do with the writer's own sense of guilt that he often disregards the principles he has set for himself.

Her production style takes the form of lifelong "research".
She creates works with various concepts as "hypotheses," conducts "demonstrative experiments" in the form of exhibitions, collects "logs," and then confirms, analyzes, and reconsiders them.

With the spread of mobile devices, we have more opportunities to see images and other images that are the results of system processing, but we are rarely aware of the processes and programs that are running behind the scenes.
In recent years, she has been trying to present program language as a work of art. By reconstructing them as paintings, she is trying to "shed light on the invisible.
In addition, using Twitter as a platform, she has created installation works that advocate "online social sculpture" that focuses on the "simultaneity of actions".
