In 2008, West worked with Nike designer Mark Smith to create the one-of-a-kind Nike Air Yeezy 1 and performed in them during the 50th Grammy Awards. In April 2021, the sneakers, with a black leather upper complete with perforated detailing, a "swoosh" logo in tone on the side and a strap on the front of the foot, were auctioned at Sotheby's and sold for $1,800,000. Kanye West's Nike Air Yeezy 1 set two records at once: they became the first sneakers in the world to sell for more than a million dollars and the most expensive ever. The buyer who offered such an incredible amount for a pair was the Rares platform, which deals with the resale of collectible models of sports shoes.
