This Kyoto Nishijin textile features the work of Utagawa Hiroshige, a famous ukiyo-e artist from the Edo period.
His renowned series, The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō, consists of 55 prints depicting the 53 post towns along the Tōkaidō road, which connected Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto, as well as the starting point at Nihonbashi and the endpoint at Sanjō Bridge in Kyoto. Hiroshige's work is celebrated for its bold compositions and the stunning beauty of the blue hues, particularly the indigo shades known as "Hiroshige Blue." This distinctive blue has been highly praised and is said to have influenced French Impressionist painters and Art Nouveau artists.
This artwork has been intricately woven using 999 pure gold leaf threads and pure platinum leaf threads.
