Oshie is a traditional Japanese craft that has been practiced since the Muromachi period (1333-1573), and KAKI's works are created with a modern twist. Oshie, a type of clothwork, uses rice powder called kanbai-ko for glue. The technique involves wrapping individual parts in cloth and combining them to create a beautiful whole. The traditional Japanese folk costume is the kimono, which is made by cutting fabric into straight lines and sewing them together. The kimono is made using the oshie technique, and then arranged in a modern artistic way using kinran cloth (a gorgeous cherry blossom pattern) to express the curves of the kimono. The support is a wooden panel made of veneer, a mixed media work. I created this work to deliver Japanese taste to people who love Japan.
