This artwork is one of the Brazilian Cerrado series. It was aplied pastel chalk of varied colours on paper. In this series of drawings, I used the technique of pastel chalk on Fabiano paper. I've been practicing it for quite a while and I enjoy it very much as it's a versatile material, in terms of light and shadow effects and for overlaying colours that when superimposed, subtly modify their original tone, which I find quite interesting.
I found inspiration to produce this series of drawings, in the natural habitat of the Chapada dos Veadeiros region, Located at the National Park in Goiás, near Brasilia, in the center west region of Brazil. I was seduced to expressively reproduce what I felt with my spirit, through my eyes, with the sky, against the intense sun light and the Cerrado vegetaion with It's unique flora. In this particular work, It shows the predominant colors of the chromatic variation from shades of green to yellow and orange against the typical region sunlight. At the same time, I focused in the shapes of the twisted trunks of the Cerrado trees and how they complete and blend with the foliage of the nature. My aim in this particular work was to blend the varied shapes as if they interacted with each other in the same space of the composition.
During my production process I used pastel pencils, and pastel chalk sticks of different overlaid colours. I chose this material, when representing my drawings, because it is a technique that I have mastered for a long time and mainly because it represents the vibrant and vivid colours that is a characteristic of my art, when I use contour lines and contrasts, inspired by the climate and culture of my country
