This artwork is one of the Brazilian Cerrado series. It was applied pastel chalk of varied colours on paper. In this series of drawings, I used the technique of pastel chalk on Fabriano paper. I've been practicing it for quite a while and I enjoy it very much as it's a versatile material, in terms of light and shadow effects and for overlaying colours, that when superimposed, subtly modify their original tone, which I find quite interesting.
I encountered inspiration to produce this series of drawings, in the natural habitat of the Chapada dos Guimarães region, located in Goiás, near Brasilia, in the center west region of Brazil, where I was seduced to expressively reproduce what I felt with my spirit, through my eyes, soaked in the tones of the sun typical late afternoons: The sky defined by the intense blue with the gradient of tones that vary from white silver to orange, which slightly blends into the blue. It was not known for sure if it is the blue that mixes with the orange tones or vice versa. The vegetation also undergoes this transformation with the reflection of the sun, ranging from intense moss green to reddish orange.
This work is from January 2022,a drawing with the technique of pastel chalk on Fabriano paper. During my production process I used pastel pencils, and pastel chalk sticks of different overlaid colours. I chose this material, when representing my drawings, because it is a technique that I have mastered for a long time and mainly because it represents the vibrant and vivid colours that is a characteristic of my art, when I use contour lines and contrasts, inspired by the climate and culture of my country.
