I first learnt about the golden ratio in university while studying architecture. Before learning about it in an academic setting, I was drawn to spirals and the Fibonacci sequence when I was younger. Learning that there was an underlying mathematical ratio behind the beauty found in nature, and even in ancient buildings, has always been very fascinating to me. This collage is a study and reference to the beauty found in nature, the cosmos and all the underlying structures and harmony that emit from that source.
I created the graphite textures by rubbing graphite pencil on a piece of paper laid over flat origami shapes. It's a process called frottage, but is usually done over leaves or other natural elements. Using frottage over flat origami created beautiful, architectural imprints that I am exploring to use more of in my works.
