As a second branch from the body of study regarding suicide culture in Korea (a long-term project), I have approached how non-Korean labourers have been mistreated and how loopholes in foreign employment laws in Korea have become the basis of systemic discrimination.
The images of sleeping women were derived from a documentary, THIS IS NOT A HOUSE (2018), presented by Shekh Almamun and several journals reporting how non-Korean labourers, especially female labourers, in rural areas are cornered to live in inhumane circumstances.
I have been aware of my limits to advocate those non-Korean labourers or express their authentic stories. Thus, it naturally led me to focus on provoking curiosity or drawing attention to why these women are sleeping in these positions which seem uncomfortable or cosy or belittled or gathered and so on.
