Why do I draw Tomica and cityscapes?
As a child, my parents gave me a Tomica toy, and watching and playing with it sparked my interest in machines. Based on this childhood experience, I always won awards in elementary and junior high school for my imaginary science drawings of future cities. After that, she continued to show a strong interest in drawing cars and cityscapes. From here, I naturally decided to go to art school.
To describe your work, the Tomica toys from the 80s and 90s that I have now mean a lot to me in many ways. These toys that I played with as a child are a great inspiration for my work and an important driving force behind my artistic practice. The original models of Tomica toys, the cars and construction machinery that existed at the time, were indispensable to the creation of modern cities. I decided to use these Tomica toys as the subject of my modern cityscape.
To explain the background of the painting, I think the landscape that best represents the material civilization of modern capitalist society is the night view of skyscrapers. Based on my personal visual experience, I expressed this with my own unique color and touch technique.
As the title of each painting suggests, I will continue to work on a series of works based on various Tomika toys that I have had since childhood.
