    Description

    This is a work inspired by plants. sayumi painted connection of all living things, and many dots and lines are expressed as if they are holding hands or connecting cell to cell. This is drawn with a mechanical pencil on Japanese paper 'Washi'. In order to prevent aging, the paper is fixed on the wooden panel which has been tarnished. This work does not come with frame however, the surface is coated with protection. It took 2 months to complete this work.

    Concept

    Yumi creates her work on the theme based on 'Pure heart' and 'Emptiness'. Before creating her work, she starts with breathing deeply to move any thoughts in her mind. After that, she draws simple shapes and that came up in her mind and start adding a detailed pattern to it. She likes to go back and forth between simple and complex to face her spirit and reveal 'something' that's in the center or root of herself.
    Yumi was born in 1994. She decided to become a painter when she was sophmore in university, after taking sketching class and felt a glimpse of the depth of drawing.
    Originally, she wanted to learn about shrines, temples, and Shinto as well as more about her home country, so she is currently studying and incorporating those elements into her work.

    • If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
