This piece is from a series from my visual narrative 'Six.' Although this is a reproduction, it is one of a hand signed limited series and, where as the original was hand drawn on tracing paper, this is a UV print of the drawing on acrylic sheet. I have included the original drawing next to the print. The piece you are buying is the clear acrylic print; designed to be mounted 4 cm from the wall, so that it casts a shadow which becomes part of the image. As the light changes throughout the day, the images interacts with its shadow, creating the illusion that the waves are moving.
The image itself shows a man on the beach with six cats, looking up at the far off mountains he desires to climb, but in being so focused on the unobtainable, fails to see the incredible sight of the whale breaching in the sea behind him. The narrative as a whole speaks of the power of faith and will and the self delusion so often at the heart of a quest.
