Description

Advertisement for a military medical research centre, specialising in heavy-duty pharmaceuticals, especially those that can deliver you to realms beyond any hope of a safe return. The message is confident, but the imagery suggests a level of complexity that can’t be that easy to fathom, let alone sustain. Defies decoding of any meaningful sort. I take it they are trying to induct us into a form of anti-universe. No knowing where anti-sport leads, if you give it room.

[All artworks are printed on archive quality oyster paper and then professionally framed, with reinforced backing and museum standard acrylic/Perspex. The framing of the larger works alone costs around $2k. Each artwork is shipped in a specially constructed packing case. I personally supervise the production of each one.]

Jakob Zaaiman's art is about discovering - and then revealing - the strange and disturbing hidden in the everyday and in the ordinary. From this point of view, everything else in art is either merely decorative or inconsequential. The strange and disturbing is where art has its true power to fascinate and enthrall.

He works mainly with photographs, some of them his own, and some found. These he works into digital collages. Each artwork is designed to house its own difficult but unsettling narrative; sometimes self-contained, sometimes reaching out to realms beyond itself. He likes to ‘mine’ a subject over time, returning to it now and then to see if he can find some other disconcerting angle to explore.

If you are concerned about repayment costs, such as when renting a house, wall pins and hooks that do not leave noticeable hole marks are available at major DIY Store and art supply stores.

If you want to hang a canvas with a hook, a hook type with a long hooking surface, such as a V-shaped type is recommended.

If there is a string on the back of the canvas or the back of the frame, you can hang it with a pin type that has a short hooking surface.
