Running from the series "Carmen-Juan" print on iron sheet (3 of 5)
The "Carmen-Juan" series arose as the embodiment of the idea of merging two literary characters: Carmen and Don Juan.
In the 90s, I was fascinated by the art of Japanese ukiyo-e woodcuts, the works of Muranoba, Hokusai, the shunga style. In parallel, he explored German expressionism. I was inspired by the idea of synthesizing both styles and expressing it both on oil on canvas and in etching and performance. To do this, I chose the strategy of appropriating and rethinking the work of my favorite artists in the vein of post-conceptualism. He made a series of paintings and etchings, a number of performances and art objects.
Post-conceptualism was very popular in the nineties and it seemed to us that we were at the forefront of the art movement, I was very productive and creative, thanks to which I received a personal exhibition in 1996 at the Asti Gallery, which presented a series of my graphic and paintings "Carmen-Juan" and performance with the participation of professional actors (see link). There were also publications about me in the newspaper and a report on the TV channel "Culture"
