The Sublime

Produced in 2022. Signed and numbered hand-pulled screenprint on deckle-edged 290 gsm arche rag paper. Although this work is in black and white, it reflects the fashion sense of the early 80s, the thin ties and bright day-glo colors. The figures are placed in a vast and sublime landscape, and the composition is inspired by German Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich's "Wanderer on a Misty Sea." The viewer is drawn to the central figure standing alone in a magnificent natural setting. The experience evokes the heroic excitement and deep spirituality evoked by the sublime landscape, and perhaps reflects the human struggle to reach something greater than the everyday.
