    Description

This lithograph work was created in 1986. Haring's characteristic flat lines and bold colors are brilliantly utilized to create a vivid, dynamic, and chaotic scene in which multiple "matchstick-like figures" seem to come to life. On screen, the people are transformed into one giant anthropomorphic structure, with large eyeballs and muscular elbows. Haring himself has also said, "My sense of color is probably influenced by the vivid colors from television," and this is reflected in his work.

    Concept

Keith Haring is a painter who can be called a pioneer of street art and is known as one of the leading American artists of the 1980s. Before devoting himself to studio work, he bridged the gap between the art world and the street by painting graffiti on the subways and sidewalks of New York City. He combined the raw energy of artists such as Jean Dubuffet with the appeal of cartoons to create a distinctive pop graffiti aesthetic of strong, boldly outlined figures on plain or patterned backgrounds.
