For millennia, people have been weaving their own clothes and collecting firewood. However, the Industrial Revolution, powered by the loom, steam, and automation transformed society and the environment in unimaginable ways.
Skyler draws upon Van Gogh's "Weaver Near an Open Window" (1884) and "Wood Gathers in the Snow" (1884) to spotlight the beginning of a technological revolution that was to reshape life for the West and Japan.
The title "a way forward" is significant in that our use and misuse of technology was not inevitable, but much painful disruption under the rainbow cloak of utopian futurism.
