People focus on what they don’t have and not what they receive by right of birth, race, sex or position. As an artist, Skyler often tries to express in his art how others who differ from himself sociologically may feel. After all, art gives us the opportunity to feel other worlds even if we do not inhabit them.
“(G)oing down” uses the scenario of a woman travelling in an elevator loaded with men with identical suits and similar faces to express a woman’s perspective of having to ride in a box created by and filled with men. The box is, of course, much larger than an elevator: it is often society itself.
