I had heard about these rare trees considered "living fossils" from an evolutionary point of view. In Italy, they are found only on the Pollino, very far from me and at an altitude of over 2200 m above sea level.
Due to the difficult climatic conditions that they undergo on the exposed rocks of the mountain massif, they assume forms that evoke extraordinary sensations in the mind of those who contemplate them. The name "loricato" is due to the bark that in the oldest specimens, even over 1000 years old, recalls the armor of Roman soldiers.
