Concept

Disguise is inspired by the sudden loss of a woman's youth. The core element of the artwork is a large weaved structure stretching across the whole canvas, contrasting with a corrosive grey background, creating a powerful visual tension. The color red is artist's expression of male dominancy and gender inequality that inherited from Japanese colonial society in Taiwan in the 1950s. The girl in a pale white shirt, painting colorful masks repeatedly, represents her frustrations of life.

There are no extra elements in this painting. A blood-like thing with a bright red entwining a large complex loop lies across the entire picture. The girl in white is kneeling on it painting masks expressionlessly. There are several masks of different shapes hanging at her side. At corner of the picture, the black dog with a playful expression coldly watched all this in front of him
Think about this. Do people always wear different masks to correspond to different people in their lives? They can’t be themselves. Many complaints and disappointments are because they have forgotten they have the ability to breakthrough.
