Ryo Takeda began teaching herself to make prints in 2006. At first, she created prints using linocut, but in 2008 she found copper plate prints and was fascinated by the delicate, soft, serene, and deep black of them, and has since continued to make copperplate prints.
For the past several years, while creating mainly still life, she has regularly painted window views of her studio under the title of “balcony” series.
She began making still life prints to “collect” the things she liked. She figured that although she couldn’t keep all of her favorite things close at hand, she could keep them in small prints. She has a habit of collecting.
She uses only black ink for most of her print and very thin, glossy Japanese paper called Gandhi-shi. We hope you will also enjoy the textures.
