The source of my sculpture ideas I have two ways of thinking about sculptural ideas. The first is how to extract the essence of concrete forms in nature and turn them into sculpture, a philosophy I inherited from Brancusi in Romania, the father of abstract sculpture. Secondly, by processing (breaking, cutting, shaving, polishing, burning, etc.) the materials used for sculpture (stone, wood, clay), I am able to combine the characteristics of the materials with my own sensibilities. The second is to process (break, cut, scrape, polish, burn, etc.) the material used for sculpture (stone, wood, clay) in order to create a form that is the result of a fusion of the material's characteristics and my own sensibilities. This method does not rely on natural forms, and even abstract concepts can be made into sculptures. I grew up with haiku and eating Japanese food. The key to haiku is how to express time and space in short sentences, and haiku is one of the few poems in the world with short expressions. Haiku is about how to express time and space in short sentences. What both of them have in common is a simplicity on the edge, where neither addition nor subtraction is possible. I would like to express this world in my sculptures, and fortunately I feel that I am unconsciously guided by the Japanese DNA that has been inherited in me.
