Concept Horiike's works can be categorized into several groups or genres with different perspectives. One group is based on two techniques of expression, monochrome and color. The other group consists of portraits and still-life photographs of street scenes and people passing by, or portraits taken in a studio while manipulating light. In addition to this, there is the "Homage to Atget" series, which uses a mixture of these techniques. For the past 10 years, Horiike has been working on the "Homage to Atget" series as a theme for the latter half of his life. Now, let us briefly describe who "Atget" is. Jean-Eugène Atget was a French photographer born near Bordeaux in 1857 and died in Paris in 1927. He began his photography career in Paris when he was over 40 years old, and recorded the streetscapes of "good old Paris" that were being lost due to the "Great Reform of Paris by Governor Haussmann," which began in the mid-19th century. In Horiike's "Homage to Atget," he actually visited the streets of Paris where Atget had taken his photographs and photographed them from the same angle as Atget. Then, by compositing the works of Atget and myself on a personal computer, Horiike was able to create a work that depicts "the gap between the time Atget and myself photographed," "the relationship between the images I recorded of Atget and his memories of them," and "the 'earth spirits' that remain in the places where Atget photographed, 100 years later," and how I felt about those "earth spirits. How did I feel? Atget photographed the streetscapes of the "good old Paris" and the people of the city, which were gradually disappearing. What is the important thing that he really wanted to "record"? His real intention was not just to photograph the streets and buildings that were being lost, but to leave behind a record that would remind us of the people who lived there and the things that happened around them. I think he was trying to capture the "real image" and "spirit of the land" that emerged from the past as an event of the era in which he lived, rather than just nostalgia for Paris. I feel the change of the "real image" and the "geospirit" in the Parisian landscape that exists today, and in my composite work with Atget's photographs, I will reconstruct a new space by bringing the "geospirit of Paris" of the 21st century to the surface. With these thoughts in mind, he continues to work daily while changing his composite techniques. He has visited Paris six times for a total of about 60 days, and has photographed at more than 200 Agers locations.

◆Biography Graduated from a photography school in 1977, and from Nagoya University of Arts in 1978. At the same time, he organized solo and group exhibitions and presented his works. Later, he joined a broadcasting company, where he photographed many scenes of program production and recording of performers. (Mainly used for distribution to newspapers and magazines, and for program posters, etc.) He participated as a volunteer photographer in the "Aichi Triennale" held in 2011, and established a group exhibition in his hometown with his art and photography friends at the time. This group exhibition has been held annually to this day, with approximately 30 participants each time. At the same time, Horiike began to produce art works, mainly photographs, in earnest. ◆Exhibitions, themes, etc. Group exhibitions include the "Zarame Exhibition" held from 2011 to 2015 (a total of five group exhibitions by approximately 20 non-genre artists using the main hall of a temple in Tsushima City, Aichi Prefecture). Around the same time in 2011, the "An de Panda Exhibition" (Aichi Arts Center) was launched through the "Aichi Triennale," and has been held 14 times until 2023, with approximately 30 artists participating each time. In addition, a group of photographers holds "Photo Walk: Nagoya Today" once every two years, and Horiike has participated in this exhibition four times. A three-person exhibition with different artists has also been held since 2016. The participants are a free poet, a painter, and a photographer, all of whom are well acquainted with each other, and the members remain the same each time. The group exhibition is held approximately every two years. In terms of production themes and solo exhibitions, the group held a solo exhibition of street snapshots from a trip to Paris in 2014 and an exhibition of works from the medieval monastery of Le Thoronet Abbey in southern France, "Le Thoronet Abbey," in 2017. Since 2018, Horiike has exhibited four times at Gallery Meiraku (Nagoya, Japan), in 2020, 2021, and 2023, paying homage to Jean Eugène Atget (1857-1925), a French photographer considered the father of modern photography, as a theme for the latter half of his life. Horiike has been focusing on this theme in the latter half of her life. Solo exhibitions: "Under the Roof of Paris" (Ariane Française Motoyama, Endonji Paris Festival, Le Plaisir du Pain, Nagoya, Japan), 2017 "Le Thoronet Abbey" (Framed Gallery 37°, Nagoya, Japan), 2018 "Paris, Agers and the Gap of 100 Years" (Gallery Meiraku, Nagoya, Japan), 2018 Paris, Agers and the Gap of 100 Years - Paris 1st arrondissement" (Chiryu City Chiryu City Cultural Hall) 2020 "Paris, Agers and the Gap of 100 Years PART 3" (Nagoya City Gallery Meiraku) 2020 "Classic PARIS Classic PARIS" (Kasugai City Fantasie en Promptu) 2021 "Paris, 2021 "Paris, Atget and the Gap of 100 Years: When Records Turn into Memories" (Gallery Meiraku, Nagoya) 2023 "Reversing Time and Transcending Centuries.
