In 1929-30, he made films with his friend Buñuel, including "The Dog of Andalusia," and in 1929, he was added to the Surrealists by a solo exhibition in Paris, but in 1934, he was expelled from the group due to a disagreement with Breton. In 1940, during World War II, he defected to the U.S., where he gained fame.
