patrick gourgouillat -p.g.- is a French painter. He grew up in the south of France, and has lived in Paris, Prague (Czech Republic) and Berlin (Germany). As a teenager, he trained in silkscreen printing at the Beaux-arts d'Avignon, and in 1997 enrolled at Berlin's Freie Universität, where he studied theater and theology. patrick gourgouillat -p.g.- began exploring pictorial art in earnest in 1995. In Berlin, where he lived at the time, he frequented the Tacheles squat and several Berlin workshops. Little by little, he forged his own artistic universe: eclectic, changing, tender and cruel.

Biography

My work is eclectic, both in form and in the use of media. In general, I work in "series". I think one of the ways of making things interesting is diversity: both styles and techniques are varied. It could be the animal world [Les animaux], a societal critique [Le comportement humain], comic-book-style drawing [Mr Doggy], fantasy worlds in dazzling frenzy [Viva La Vida] or a poetic exploration of the human soul [Le troisième mois]. These series are very different from one another. What interests me are the variations in energy they imply. This is often the case in art in general and in life in particular.
