From an early age, Shoran was influenced by her grandfather who operated his own calligraphy school. Academy Certified Master Shodo Instructor Certified Handwriting Appraiser State University of New York Plattsburgh, BA in Business Member of the Shizuoka Water Painter's Study Group Through her years studying abroad in Australia and the United States, Shoran found herself drawn to Japanese calligraphy. "I had a desire to spread Japanese traditional culture overseas and pass it on to the next generation. Upon returning to Japan, she worked as a Cabin Attendant for ANA and had the chance to travel further around Japan and the world. After retiring from her job at ANA, she currently holds calligraphy classes and workshops in Tokyo, Shizuoka, and virtually. In addition, she creates Shodo art, commissioned works across Japan and the world. Japan's only, Matcha Calligraphy® is a registered trademark. Graduated from New York State University in three and a half years and received an award for academic excellence. After graduating from New York State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 3.5 years, Shoran went to Australia for high school and then to the United States for college, and while working as a flight attendant for ANA, she realized the appeal of calligraphy, which her grandfather had taught her, and decided to become involved in calligraphy. In 2012, she graduated from the Japan Education and Calligraphy Academy with a Master's degree in calligraphy and opened the Shoran Calligraphy School to begin her career as a calligrapher in earnest. After becoming an independent calligrapher, she taught calligraphy and Japanese culture classes in English at a vocational school for international students who were looking for work in Japan. His passion for calligraphy led him to expand his business overseas in a short period of time. In 2015, he obtained a cultural exchange visa to work as a calligrapher in Los Angeles. He became the first Japanese calligrapher to give performances and lectures at museums, universities, galleries, hotels, and various other venues. In recognition of his achievements, he received the 2018 Lomita in LA Small Business Excellence Award in the Art Classes classification (2018 California Lomita Small Business Excellence Award), the 2019 Best of Lomita Awards in the category of Art Classes. Currently, she is teaching calligraphy in Shizuoka and Tokyo through "Matcha Calligraphy®," "Global Calligraphy Classes for Japanese and Foreigners," and "Classes for International Travelers" including workshops to a total of 20,000 students in 55 countries. He has taught calligraphy to about 20,000 students in 5 countries, including workshops. He also teaches ink painting, handwriting analysis, calligraphy on line, and brush letter design.
