Kazunori Matsumura was born in Osaka City. He spent his childhood watching his mother's uncle, a Japanese-style painter, paint hanging scrolls and his father, a member of a group exhibition, paint oil paintings. He soon developed a love for painting, and after graduating from the art department of a high school, he went on to graduate from an art college with a specialization in oil painting. In 1985, he traveled to France, Spain, and Portugal, where he had the opportunity to directly experience the climate and works of Western painting. He then began to paint fantastical landscapes under the theme of "the mysterious lands". The appearance of wilderness with dead trees and the space in the twilight with floating stone blocks is a remarkable trend that can be seen from this point onward. After this motif continues for a while, small flowers appear in the air. Flowers have been frequently depicted in the past, but their frequency has increased since the recent earthquake. The flowers may be a sign of salvation or hope. Flowers, which continue to be depicted today, have come to occupy a leading role in his works. Matsumura's works are composed of time and space, using stone blocks, dead trees, flowers, and the moon as materials. Appearing clear form and reality in a silent, weightless world, he cuts into the world blooming on the border of the mysterious ......, pregnant with an illusion that sometimes reverses itself.
