In my work, I have mainly attempted to visualize the stories of people, culture, history, social issues, and natural disasters that I have encountered in the places where I have stayed, and which I have scooped up through direct communication in those places. While painting is the axis of my career, I also combine photography, text, video, and other media in my cross-disciplinary expressive activities. Major representative works have dealt with subjects such as the story of the red-light district in Koganecho, Yokohama, reconstruction and recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake, social issues in super typhoon-stricken areas and urban poor communities in the Philippines, and the experience of Buddhist painting in Thailand. The subjects of my work and the places chosen for them often include experiences guided by chance. Currently, I am once again working purely in the medium of painting.
