Concept

Kohei Yoshihara is a self-taught Japanese artist. He has been trying to extract and crystallize fragile ephemeral sentiments which are commonly expressed as poetry, in unique compositions with a few elements. In some of his works, he tries to highlight the poetic sentiment he wants to express by consciously reducing the number of elements he depicts. This is similar to how haiku and tanka poems convey emotion to the reader by cutting down unnecessary words, within a limited number of syllables. The source of the sentiments consists of three layers; the beauty of the nature, the value of tradition and culture, and personal memories.

Kohei Yoshihara was born in Osaka, started making postcards in his mid-teens. In 2019, he started showing his works on social media under the name kohei1975.
