Concept

I have been drawing and painting for about 30 years, without ever having learned, and I love it. I create, first, to satisfy a need for freedom, alignment and letting go through the creation of multiple worlds. Then, in a second time, when the painting is ready to be exposed, comes the moment of the exchange and I like to nourish myself with the feelings and emotions of other views. Through the creation of my own supports based on recycled materials, I have gradually developed my style, moving from reproduction as close as possible to the subject to a more personal, liberated, intuitive expression, figurative or not. I have allowed myself to let go of the gesture and to express emotion in a way other than by copying, always trying to capture the intensity of a look, a subject, an atmosphere. The mixed technique I use, based on acrylic, pastel, ink and collage, allows me to play with colors, patterns and subjects that are laid down, superimposed, then underlined with acrylic marker to create deep and moving dimensions, sometimes hypnotic. The shapes settle, the colors impose themselves, the paintings are painted, the collages are made. Everything is simple, intuitive, free. Strata after strata, a painting is composed that I discover at the same time that I create it. It is a more and more spiritual process that often takes place in vertical formats. Each painting can then become, for the observer, a space of emotions, resonances and journeys towards his own feelings and visions in the forms and the created universes. When I achieve this, I feel like an artist passing on wonder.

Biography

PiA is a French self-taught painter, born in 1965. PiA is his nickname since childhood (the beginning of Pierre and Alain, his first name) and it is also the one he chose as his artist's name because its feminine sound represents well the creative side of his character.
Thanks to a family inspiration, he practiced drawing and painting for his leisure for about thirty years, then professionally since 2016. He is plural both in his professions - he is also a coach and neuroscientist - and in his artistic practice as he approaches both the figurative, with portraiture as his favorite subject, and since 2018, the non-figurative using mainly collages.
Since 2010, his growing interest in environmental issues strongly influences his artistic practice. Indeed, he begins to create his own supports by recycling old papers, wooden boards, various objects that inspire him, and he then allows himself to let go, which allows him to develop his style, to let intuition express itself, while bringing by his drop of water to the preservation of the planet.
Since 2016, he regularly exhibits his work during the annual open house of his studio and solo or group events. He can thus enjoy both parts of the artist's life: the joy of creation and, just as important, the happiness of sharing, with the public, the emotional spaces that are created in his paintings.
The notion of connection and inner journey sometimes felt by the observer gives PiA the opportunity to link painting and coaching by offering his paintings as a tool for artistic mediation.
