Olga Belikova was born in Vladikavkaz, Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Russia in 1983. Art has been a passion since her childhood. After finishing the College of Art, Olga entered North Ossetian State University after K.L. Khetagurov. She graduated from the university with a major in Fine Arts. After graduation, Olga Belikova moved to Moscow and started to work as an Artist-Designer and Graphic designer for Graphic Group, where she creates and redesigns logos and corporate identities.
Since she was born and raised among the peoples of the Caucasus, Olga was always interested in ethnic and traditions. She is fond of culture and religion and art history and spends hours examining patterns, drawings, embroidery. There was a museum of antique bronze finds of the Scythians, Alans and Sarmatians in her native city, which she loved to visit and look at dishes, household items, weapons, hairpins and hair combs.
Visiting European cities, Olga gets inspired by narrow streets and warm colors. She admires sunlight that falls on ancient walls and surroundings which makes a contrast to the shadows. Painting old stone streets, she feels power, warmth and steadiness. In her cityscapes Olga strives to transfer not so much the beauty and accuracy of buildings, but her own impressions of the contemplation of ancient architecture. She tries to capture the traditions and cultural characteristics of the people who created these buildings, and paints them in detail.
The second line of Olga’s work is the animal world. Olga Belikova creates images of animals in terms of relationships between humans and animals. She always puts them into the area where they inhabit because she believes that surroundings support and help to understand the hero of the artwork. Olga likes to convey the details and they always carry a semantic load and have a meaning. She emphasizes that details support her thoughts and ideas that she embodies on canvas.
Inspired by Claude Monet and Auguste Renoir’s style, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin’s color scheme, Zinaida Serebryakova’s simplicity and grace of lines, Olga strives to take all the most valuable and important for her works. The artist continues to experiment with different materials such as oil and acrylic paints, pastel, texture paste in order to improve her own style and palette.
