Concept

Painting is, for me, an introspective and isolated search of undiscovered territories within myself; a way of following the attraction and the thrill I feel for uncertainty. My paintings start with a spot of color which is the inspiration for new forms and new colors, without having a clear idea of what (will come/will unfold), or how it will ultimately end. My main interest is not so much the final product, but the process, which is this pleasure of creation; taking the risks which threatens my emotional stability. This creative process is not linear, but it is built in a vertical way, with multiple layers, one over the other, the same way as I compose music, where the first sound suggests the next one, and so on… “not having to tell a story”. There is always a search for new techniques, mostly at this time with oil, airbrush, carbon, and ink.

Biography

I was born in Santiago, Chile the 23rd of December 1979, the place where I grew
up. My mother is Chilean and my father is German, so I have both nationalities.
Since I was a child, I traveled a lot to Europe, Africa, US and Chile. Knowing
new places has been a constant in my life and part of my major interests, and
maybe it is why I don´t feel I belong to any particular culture. In this sense, my
awareness of art expressions is very wide and open.
As an adult, I lived some years in Cuba and in Berlin, and now I live in the
Argentinean Patagonia, in a very rural and isolated place; the extreme between
the urban and the rural, and both have had an influence in my art: Cuba was the
explosion of colors, Berlin the confluence of all kinds of cultures, art expressions
and languages, and Patagonia, with its landscapes and natural beauty, the place
where my child was born, and the reason why it still is my residence and working
place.
At 12 years old, I began to play the saxophone, and have always been composing and
having music as a very important part of my life. Then painting arose as the
fundamental way of my artistic expression, and by this time, I also work with
photography and video, where I can gather and find a confluence, a synapsis of
these different expressions which in some point, come to be only one.
My work is an abstract art, a spontaneous expression of elements concerning
the unconscious of my mind, both in its concrete and in its spiritual facet. It grows in
spaces of profound silence which allow this inner world to emerge.
A dance with its own rhythm and constant new movements of colors and forms,
sometimes it can be visualized as anarchic and rebellious, others as
harmonious and full of beauty.
