Olivia Checiu (born January 15th 1981, Calinesti, Romania) is an architect with a decorative arts high-school diploma. She creates mostly watercolor paintings, but also photos and drawings. Her favorite themes are landscapes, either realistic or with a dose of abstract, and flowers. By focusing on techniques and colors, she makes work that deals with the documentation of events and the question of how they can be presented. By exploring the concept of landscape in a nostalgic way, she considers making art a craft which is executed using clear formal rules and which should always refer to social reality. Her works are presented with the aim not to provide an idealistic view but to identify where light and the environment are important. The energy of a place and its emotional and spiritual vibrations are always important. Olivia Checiu currently lives and works in Timisoara, Romania.
