Charulatha based in Chennai, India plays multiple roles among others, from HR consulting during the day to being a mother to a 16-year-old, himself into art and pop culture 48 hours a day! Charulatha is a graduate in mathematics, a double post-graduate in computer sciences, psychology, and a certified coach! However, she must and does find time to create images, sketches in pencils and charcoal, watercolors, and paintings in oils, of beings in language and beyond, in the blessing brightness of South Indian Aditya, the Sun.
Formally trained under recognized artist-painters, Charulatha began with watercolors and exhibited in 2008. Since then, it was through practice, that was possible only when she was not in front of her calibrated RGB 1920 x1200, she learnt the value, intensity, and light fastness or slowness of metallic, organic and earth colors! Canvas on an easel, palette and paint box and brushes became the means to obsessively re-present the figures and forms through portraits, still-life, and landscapes! This creative fervor has also led to self-portraits recently! Her art has been exhibited in several shows and are also in private collections. Her work has earned her quite a few fans both online and in the community of artists!
Charulatha’s paintings are at once acts of love and resistance! Love for the subjects expressed in all media through the portraits of men and women who bear a silence that speaks of their passion amidst the technological banalization of life, work, and culture! Owls and wolves have expressive looks in their eyes that question and return our digitized stares. Even street scenes and a bridge over water resist our two, zero and one, backed up eyes!
