Minhwa means popular painting or people’s art and is traditional Korean folk painting from the Chosun era (1392-1910) painted onto paper or on canvas.

Korean folk painting which is Minhwa in Korean produced mostly by itinerant or unknown artists without formal training, emulating contemporary trends in fine art for the purpose of everyday use or decoration.

People were believed to possess beneficial virtues and to protect the owner and his family from evil forces. They feature popular themes such as cranes, rocks, water, clouds, the sun, moon, pine-trees, tortoises, insects and flowers.


She dye every single paper with size water by herself and lay on the colors which is Korean traditional pigments using Korean traditional techniques from generation to generation.

The colors of nature are harmonized in a sophisticated way. Each hair of figures, the veins of lotus leaves and flowers are realistically depicted. She expressed her own delicate color sense using traditional colors. Luxurious and high-tech Barim which is Korean traditional gradation technique in drawing makes the work stand out even more.
