ARTIST STATEMENT:
I seek to explore feelings through my work. I do this with the use of colour, texture and gestural strokes. I enjoy painting in vibrant colours as they lift the spirit and energise us. I also like to paint in soft colours when I want to express emotions of tranquility or fragility. I want people to be moved when they see one of my paintings. I believe that colour has a psychological effect on us and that painting is a medium that can transfer the emotions of the artist on to the canvas to be shared with others. The emotions I attempt to share in this way are always positive. Most commonly the joy of being alive, the beauty of nature or the quiet reflection of a pensive state. I enjoy painting large pieces as they allow me to be completely immersed in the painting. I like to be experimental with tools and materials and to produce something unique and personal. Most recently I have been teaching abstract art classes which is something I also feel passionate about.
