I started painting during the pandemic. After loosing my job (and consequently my insurance) I was unable to afford therapy and therefore a source to release and confront the stress placed on my life. Art has been an opportunity to speak freely and without shame of the experiences I’ve encountered both during the pandemic and before it. My work is always abstract following no particular pattern or rubric but that is what makes it so invoking. This has been the one place I’ve been welcome to be unapologetically myself which is imperative as someone who struggles with identity and acceptance in their daily life. As of now I have separated myself from my work in an attempt to be judged, for once, only by the emotions being portrayed on canvas. I’ve chosen the name Cornerstore Canvas because much like urban areas found in any city there are similarities related through unspoken channels that bring comfort and nostalgia to us without really ever understanding why.
