"Most of my works have characters in them. I used to draw comics, so there is a wide range of influences from comics, movies, and other narrative works, but by combining my favorite motifs of the supernatural and occult, I create a world that is more surrealistic. In my brain, my curiosity causes reality to swell, and a surrealistic image automatically emerges. By mixing this with calculation, I add an accessible atmosphere to my work.
While people who are good at explanation create works as a device to visualize concepts, I am the type of person who prefers to draw the vision that comes to mind before words, so the common concept in all my works is to surrender to curiosity rather than concepts."

Yamada is a Japanese painter based in Sweden. As a boy in the ’90s Tokyo, Koushin was inspired by “the golden age” of Japanese manga culture and the occult boom, typified by UFOs and other paranormal genres. Then, he gradually deepened his interest in alternative theories and the wonders of nature and humans. Koushin expands his ideas from the curiosity about something unknown that arises in the fluctuations between reality and unreality, and he arbitrarily samples even artifacts and mythical symbols. Techniques such as symbolism and surrealism also influence his artwork. Through bold motifs and powerful colors, his work creates a playful and modern impression.
