Eloise “Elwah” Gonzales is a resident of Bacolod city, a full time artist, and a co-founder and marketing director of House of Frida, an art space which also deals with retail, merchandising and event production, established in 2015
She is a graduate of St. Scholastica’s Academy- Bacolod, and Riverside College where she earned her Bachelor in Science Degree in Nursing. She carried on with her art practice after passing the board examinations in 2010.
Elwah’s works consist of organic forms which often push the boundaries of interpreting two dimensional space. Introspection, growth, and longing for unknown futures can be seen in her use of mirrors, depiction of plants, and people with markedly long necks. In 2015, her piece “Self- Queries”, a mixed media collage self portrait cut out from her drawings, was included in a textbook for Philippine Contemporary Art. This was distributed for 12th grade students around the country. Her latest artwork, “Bugana” (2019), which means abundance in Hiligaynon, is an homage to the woman and her life bearing. It is also a mixed media piece on shaped canvas, done in acrylic, and shattered pieces of mirror.
She qualified as a semi-finalist for ARTWORK’s annual T- Shirt Design Competition for four years (2007-2011) . Her designs were printed and sold in ARTWORK stores nationwide.
Elwah is also active in Theater Arts, taking workshops for Theater Improvisation, Film Production, and Digital Photography. She is also a member of a comedy improvisation group, Bacolod Improv Group.
