Concept

Artist Statement Art is intrinsically healing when it has a capacity to make meaning, connections and understandings come together to provide the individuals a new and better view of the world and of themselves. That in turn is healing for our environment also, as individuals heal themselves so does their environment. My art is very much linked to this notion of healing myself and my environment through my own cultivation of self-awareness that I maintain through not only a spiritual practice but also through the aesthetics and sensibilities of art. In general, my art works as a compass to inform my practice of self-realization and of perceptions of my surrounding environment. My works develop in a very spontaneous, organic manner, almost like as it would a poem, this way I ensure to stay open to influences from people and my environment, which in turn has great benefits in the work. I hope to inspire and to translate into form, as much as my ability, the spirit of my journey as an artist and individual.

Biography

Carol Barroso was born in 1981 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
From the early age of eighteen she travelled the world and has lived in a number of different places including, Boston, New York, London and Sydney. Now Carol is based in the South Coast of NSW.
Her work is a highly expressive impression of the landscape. Her fertile spiritual life serves her art practice well in the sense of sharpening and deepening her innate sensitivity.
Carol believes that her practice has developed into a poetic exercise of spontaneity, where the act of painting develops as it would a poem. She reads poetry extensively and is largely influences by it, as much as she is by nature.
Carol commenced her art education in New York at the age of 20. She started with studying photography and then transitioned into painting in 2005. Carol creates incessantly, almost as compulsion to make her inner world visible. Carol graduated from Cofa UNSW Australia with a Masters of Fine Arts in 2016. Besides painting and holding exhibitions, Carol is also currently studying Art Therapy at Western Sydney University.
