Salvatore Balice, architectural interior designer and self-taught interdisciplinary artist.
After earning a Masters in Business Administration in 1992, he feels he wants to deepen the humanistic aspect more than that of the business managerial world. Ipso facto, he enrolled in the degree course in Foreign Languages and Literatures where he became passionate about the studies of semiotics and philosophy of language. He abandoned his studies in 1998 and decided to undertake an individual research path, moving for about 4 months to an ashram in India. It is from this moment that he begins a path of opening towards the deepest part of himself, of the world of architecture and the arts. Several trips to Japan and a close link with the culture of that country will follow. He moved to London in 2001 where he studied Architectural Interior Design. After two years he set up his own professional interior & furniture design studio in London. In 2006 he returned to live in Bari and enrolled in the degree course in Architecture Sciences and Techniques at the University of Pescara. In the following years, while working as an interior designer and designer for furniture, he studied photography as a self-taught person, which in principle he would support the practice of interior architecture, and then develop it in an artistic research direction focused on the anthropized environment and on the aspects linked to listening deeply to one's self. This type of research will lead to a series of insights into the history of Western philosophy, Carmelo Bene's theater and the study of his thought, the theme of language as addressed by Jaques Derrida and the study and practice of Jiddu Krishnamurti's teaching.. In the following years, the photographic medium will be joined by painting and sculpture / installation. In photography, the digital collage technique will prevail and all the photographs taken will have the purpose of assembling them in the single shot to obtain a final image that produces a broader and cryptic story at the same time. In painting he will experiment with various techniques, from painting with acrylic on paper and canvas, with and without the addition of material elements such as plaster and paper, to the use of oil colors mixed with beeswax (cold wax) on wooden panels of poplar and the use of cold encaustic colors. The pictorial current of greatest inspiration will be that of American abstract expressionism which will lead to the production of works closer to "nonrepresentational art" rather than to "abstract art". The sculptures in terra cotta and raw will also contain the abstract character, as well as the installations made with recycled materials.
