Rie Sasaki is a metalworker and woodblock print artist from Japan. In 1998, after completing her studies abroad, she decided to return to Japan and start her own studio by herself. While gazing at the beautifully clear blue sky of her beloved Sweden, she decided to name her studio "Sora Kobo" (Sky Studio). A sky with various expressions, deep and endless. A sky that embraces everything. I wanted to create works like the sky. After that, there were twists and turns, and I worked in metal sculpture until 2022, and then shifted to jewelry and woodblock printing in 2023. Through metal sculpture, jewelry, and woodblock printing, she explores the unique characteristics of each material, aiming to create works that evoke a sense of life, airiness, and transience. She pursues a distinct visual and sensory expression, crafting pieces that can share stories and quietly resonate with people's lives. With each piece, she hopes to offer viewers a sense of peace and inspire new perspectives.
