My work is an exploration of the spaces between the personal and the universal—those fleeting moments where our inner worlds meet the outer world. Collage is my chosen medium because it allows me to deconstruct and reconstruct reality, combining old and new materials to create something entirely unique. Each piece is a balance of form, color, and texture, creating spaces that invite both comfort and exploration. Through these collages, I explore not only the layering of images but also the deeper layers of meaning that emerge when we mix the past with the present.

The process of working with collage is an act of sustainability—giving new life to discarded images and objects. By transforming them into something entirely new, I explore the tension between preservation and reinvention, questioning what is worth saving and what can be reimagined. Play is essential to my practice; it fuels my curiosity and my ability to experiment with form and structure, breaking free from the constraints of conventional thinking.

In my work, I delve into our collective longing—for memories of something we may never have had or a nostalgic return to something we might rediscover in these fragmented pieces. The resulting spaces are both familiar and strange, offering a place where comfort and exploration coexist. They are an invitation to engage with the past while moving forward into new realms of possibility.

Ultimately, my collages reflect the delicate balance between the old and the new, the seen and the unseen, the real and the imagined. They are spaces where we can reconnect with forgotten memories, challenge our perceptions, and engage in the ongoing act of creating something meaningful from what we have—and what we might still discover.

Iris Jacobs (1979) is a Dutch-born, Barcelona & Madrid based artist, filmmaker, and cultural designer with a passion for play, performance and storytelling. With a Bachelor of Social Work and trainings in 'Directing Performance' & 'Passionate Nature' at The Actors Space, Iris’s career began in the theatre world as a producer and art director. She moved into the world of film and design in 2006, crafting immersive sets and props, but her artistic journey truly expanded in 2013 when she started creating collage art and writing films and plays.

Her abstract collage series, Close to Silence (2017) and Hang In There (2020), explore the space between reality and the imagination, using texture, color, and form to create surreal worlds. These works invite a playful exploration of the impossible, evoking comparisons to surrealist icons like Dalí. Iris also has a knack for film, with her first short, Fight Flight Free (2018), premiering in Barcelona and touring festivals worldwide. She directed music videos, contemporary dance films, and is currently working on new series like 'Leaving Things Out' and 'The Best Is Yet To Come'.

Founder of Curious Creatives, Iris loves to inspire others by offering global workshops like Contemporary Collage and How to Find Personal Truth in Your Story, where participants explore their creativity through play. She is currently designing an educative program for gifts individuals : Power To Purpose Program.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries such as Piet Jonker.nl in the Netherlands and' Women In Art' 2023, and published in Art Connect.
