How I wish I could have taken self-portraits. If only I could be a model and enter the world like Cindy Sherman. I'm sure you all remember those childhood playdates when we all talked about which character we were going to be. Even after I grew up, I could not escape from such a fantasy world, and whenever I read various books such as picture books, comic books, and novels, I projected myself as if I wanted to be like this. However, as soon as I could no longer recognize my own appearance, I began to feel that there was no way I could become what I wanted to be, and that was painful. I take pictures because I want to be someone. I wish I could have been the person reflected here, but I am projecting myself onto others. It could be called self-portraiture using others. Although I am not yet able to face myself squarely, I would like to continue to create works of art that will enable people with similar complexes to project themselves onto others, so that one day that day will come.
