For me, binding is "connection. When I bind someone, I do not feel like capturing or binding them, but I feel the "connection" with the other person first and foremost. The rope is like a telephone string that connects you to the other person, and that is how I feel. When you bind someone with strong feelings of importance, you feel that the other person is the most important thing in your life! When you bind with a strong feeling of "I care about the other person!", you can sense where the other person wants the rope to go, the timing, the strength, etc., and bind accordingly. The line that is created when you are able to bind with this sense is like a cliff formed by waves cutting the rock face, a line that is unique to you and your partner, as if it were created in the great outdoors. I find this wonderful and beautiful. For me, that is the constraint I am pursuing. There is a series of my most famous work - Red - which also has the theme of "connection. This work expresses the connection between mothers, ancestors, nature, friends, DNA, the future, hearts and minds, inspiration, and so much more. Human beings are never alone. We are connected to someone somewhere. I use red ropes in my works because I want to show a strong 'connection' like the red thread of blood and fate. And the white world represents innocence. The Internet has made our world more convenient, but have we forgotten the true meaning of contact and connection? I created this work with the hope that the viewer will be reminded of important people and events of the past. Red is just one example, but my various artworks are created with this in mind.
