For art, he studied under the guidance of painter Eiji Katakoda, a graduate of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. At university, he studied video under filmmaker Kawanaka Nobuhiro. Kawanaka was also involved with Shuji Terayama and established Image Forum, which contributed to the development of underground video culture. While in school, Kawanaka was also involved with film director Shinobu Yaguchi in a film study group. Through his interactions with Diesuke Nakayama (president of Tohoku University of Art & Design and a contemporary artist) and others, he aspired to become a contemporary artist. Later, he completed his university studies with an emphasis on painting. Based in Kansai, he has created and exhibited many human-centered works. After meeting designer and gallerist Kazuhiko Katayama, he began to create numerous installations and dynamic expressions. He formed a unit with Japanese painter Ai Chuda and presented the exhibition "Gasoline. He also met guitarist Yasuyoshi Ogino and performed a guerrilla live show. In front of a noisy audience, he showed a new way of live painting. He has been working on one-on-one projects facing people and creating works facing individuals. In recent years, he has been challenging new expressions using various techniques. A collection of his works covering a variety of expressions is scheduled to be published by AMAZON in April.
